What is Nutritional Medicine?

What is nutritional medicine?

Many multifaceted factors determine our health and disease; it's incredibly complex!

Hence, nutritional medicine approaches health and disease management holistically by exploring how, what, and why we eat, our nutrient adequacy, lifestyle, behaviours, and health and family history.

All of these factors come together to create our current health state and give us an understanding of why an individual is experiencing health or disease.

Why see a clinical nutritionist, and what does BHSc Nut Med mean?

Clinical nutritionists focus on holistic healthcare, looking at the whole body to prevent and manage a wide range of health concerns by marrying current scientific findings with ancient food knowledge.

We don't believe in quick-fix diets, bandaids, or restrictive eating; we aim to create sustainable, long-term changes to your diet, habits, and behaviours to help you achieve your health goals. We see ourselves as a support system with the knowledge and the tools to facilitate your journey to a healthier body, mind, and soul.

BHSc Nut Med stands for Bachelor of Health Science in Nutritional Medicine; we both studied at a university level for three years to obtain our qualifications. Our course was strongly rooted in biological sciences, pathology, social sciences, and clinical nutrition.

Clinical nutrition can help individuals with:

  • improving their diet and nutrition knowledge

  • creating healthy habits and behaviours

  • lethargy and fatigue

  • persistent digestive issues

  • chronic health conditions

  • inflammation

  • weight management

  • insulin resistance

  • high cholesterol

  • nutrient deficiencies

  • preconception care

  • healthy pregnancy

5 signs you may benefit from seeing a clinical nutritionist

1. You are confused by what a healthy diet looks like

The nutrition world can be confusing! We can help simplify and demystify by providing practical, individualised nutrition support backed by the latest evidence-based research.

2. You experience ongoing bloating, constipation, or pain

Experiencing persistent symptoms of bloating, constipation, and/or pain warrants some investigation into your gut health; and may include food intolerance and allergy testing.

3. You have high cholesterol

We can help manage your cholesterol levels with nutrition and lifestyle changes to achieve and maintain a healthy lipid profile; while helping to prevent further disease.

4. You are trying to conceive, pregnant or postpartum

Whether you are trying to conceive, are pregnant, or postpartum, we can guide you on your journey to parenthood, whatever the stage. Nutrition needs vary throughout all these periods; we can help you understand your needs and support your body along the way.

5. You are always tired and fatigued

Feeling exhausted and tired daily? Struggling with energy slumps? When, what, and how we eat influences how good we feel throughout the day. We can help you make small changes that make a huge difference.
